More than 60% of Americans wash their fruits and vegetables to attempt to remove the pesticides that wreak havoc in the body. From soapy water to vinegar solutions, everyone has their opinion on what works and doesn't. Finally, science is weighing in and this household item works better than anything else.

NaHCO3, you find it in almost every house in America but very few people think to use it to wash their fruites and veggies. NaHCO3 is better knowing as sodium bicarbonate or, baking soda.

The Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry published an published a study in October of 2017 comparing commercial and homemade washing solutions. Standard postharvest methods involve utilizing Clorox. This was also compared to tap water and another solution of baking soda. Baking soda was by far more effective at removing surface residues, although did not remove pesticides that had penetrated deep.

If you can't obtain organic fruits and vegetables and are looking to really remove the pesticides from your foods, baking soda is your go to solution.
